Time to unleash the fab factor with our Dark Brown Fabric Paint

Got something that’s feeling a little unloved? All-in-one Fabricoat fabric paint helps you revive pretty much anything, from sofas and cushions to curtains and car interiors. Acting like a fabric dye, it’s extremely easy to use, highly durable and a cost effective way to bring fabric back to life.

Fabricoat comes in a range of 16 on-trend and classic colours. The colours are strong and vibrant and won’t fade or rub off after they’ve dried. Transform loved pieces to reflect who you are and what you value.

Once dry, the fabric will remain soft and flexible – it won’t make the material go hard or stiff – and it will provide a long-lasting finish that you’ll enjoy for years.

Just so you know...

If you’re using the paint to change the colour of fabric, always ensure the fabric is a lighter colour than the paint you decide to use. Can’t find the colour you desire? Then try mixing the colours to your preferred shade or use our White Mixing Fabricoat paint to lighten other colours. As it dries, do brush the surface a few times to prevent any fibres sticking together.

If your fabric has a pile, such as velvet, faux-suede, chenille, draylon or microfibre, we recommend ordering double the quantities of fabric paint. This is because there’s lots more surface area to cover on these types of fabric.

Always test the fabric for water absorbency first. If it’s absorbent, Fabricoat will work.

Full instructions are provided on in our How To section and on the product label.

Frequently Asked Questions

A. Yes, Fabricoat will work on any fabric provided it's absorbent. To test absorbency, drop some water onto the fabric and see if it soaks in. If it does, it is absorbent, and Fabricoat will work. We’d advise that for fabrics with a pile, you order double the amount of fabric paint as there's more surface area to cover.

A. A 250ml bottle will cover a lampshade or cushion, 500ml will paint a dining chair or a footstool, 1 litre will be enough for an armchair, headboard, or car seat, and 2.5 litres will be enough to transform a three-seater sofa.

However, if your fabric has a pile (like velvet, faux-suede, chenille, draylon, or microfibre), you will need to use more product as there is much more surface area to cover. We suggest ordering double the above quantities of fabric paint for these fabric types.

Our 125ml bottles are for small craft projects such as painting or printing on clothing, bags, napkins, lampshades and more. Alternatively they can be used as tester bottles to perform a small test on an inconspicuous area before tackling larger upholstery projects, if you want to see how the colour will turn out.

A. No, as long as you brush the fabric with a Soft Bristle Brush during and after painting it should not feel any different. Fabricoat is designed to dry with a soft, flexible finish without changing how the fabric feels.

A. If you want to change the colour of an item, we recommend you always use a darker paint than the original colour.  If you do wish to transform your item to a lighter colour, the original darker colour is likely to show through. You can use our White Fabricoat as a base paint, but we suggest you always test a corner of the fabric first to guarantee this will work.

A. Sofas, chairs, lampshades, blinds, headboards and car interiors, but the possibilities are endless. Our small 125ml craft sized bottles are perfect for hand painting or printing on t-shirts and bags, or decorating fabric advent calendars and cushions. Check out our Inspire page or socials to see what our community have been painting.

A. Yes, it is. Fabricoat takes two hours to become touch-dry and can be used after that, but we’d advise waiting a full seven days to allow the colour to fully cure. Once it’s fully cured, the material can be washed or cleaned as normal. Once dry, it will not rub off onto your clothes or other items.

The fabricoat transformed my bed into exactly what I wanted, and saved me buying a new one very pleased thank you

Customer photo review of Fabric Paint -- Dark Brown

Really easy to use absolutely love the colour. Painted the bed from grey to dark brown. Lighting not the best and photo doesn’t do it justice.

Customer photo review of Fabric Paint -- Dark Brown

Was very sceptical at first, so bought the small bottle to test out and to check if it transferred on to any bedding, no word of a lie I painted it 3 hours before going to bed and it had completely dried and no transfer at all. I am obsessed I bought the big bottle and painted my entire king sized bed with one coat and a small velvet foot stool and didn’t even need to use the send bottle. Amazing stuff! P.s use a paint brush to brush on the water before putting paint on

Started from an old tired looking grey sofa to a upcycled fresh new brown sofa. Loved it.

Customer photo review of Fabric Paint -- Dark Brown

Painted the valence over my picture window. It was very light, and suede-like fabric. Worked wonderfully and was easy to apply.

Customer photo review of Fabric Paint -- Dark Brown

My sofa had become extremely sun bleached. It was either do something with it or get rid. It did take 3 coats to cover evenly however I am very pleased with the overall finish. I won’t need to replace quite so soon now.

Customer photo review of Fabric Paint -- Dark Brown

This is the first I have used this on vinyl/leatherette normally on fabric but it worked so well. Colour turned out perfect with only one coat put on with a small roller.

Customer photo review of Fabric Paint -- Dark Brown

Painted over my purple zebra cushions, made the background colour dark brown instead and you’d never know they’d been painted!

Customer photo review of Fabric Paint -- Dark Brown

I wanted to pain a cream linen lamp shade I had to dark/chocolate brown and after coming across your website and reading your reviews I bought the dark brown paint. I am really glad I did. It was really easy to use and the results were amazing. Just what I wanted. Looks and feels original. Thank you

2nd time purchase. Worked great both times.

We wanted the olive but it looked differently when applied so we had to mix colours to get one We liked. We then have had to apply numerous coats as it didnt cover properly and still needs to be touched up. It also feels hard and a bit ruff to touch.

Used it to”patch” a color spot on my wool rug. Worked perfectly

The coverage was great! At first it looked a bit plasticky, but after a week or so it looks like a lovely natural texture again! Much more wipeable and easy to hoover though, so great for our busy house.

Followed the instructions to the letter.. made chair hard and horrible to sit on

Used 2 coats on a cream lampshade but it’s still hasn’t covered fully

Great product, does exactly what it says on the bottle!

The dye works very well as advertised. We used it to dye our sofa and are very happy with the final look!

Amazing product. I was impressed with the outcome.

Excellent ! Saved me buying a new sofa Easy to apply Would highly recommend !

Thought it was going to be a nice chocolate brown colour but made the fabric jet black. Replacing the entire blinds now

Transformed a grey velvet chair to dark brown to match new decor. Lovely colour and saved having to buy new furniture! Would definitely use again.

Turned our purple pair of sofas a lovely homely brown 😊

Turned out just how I hoped it would! Now looking at what else I can paint!!

The paint goes a very long way. Really good quality

Great coverage ..great colour

Used to dye the fur trim on some boots. Quick and easy and Looks great 🤞 it’s colorfast.

Just tried love it. I’m going to order to do the whole settee 🛋️

Really great product

Dry easy to use and great result. Would recommend.

Excellent product and instructions for use. Prompt delivery. Does the job it’s intended for extremely well.

Covered my swing canopy beautifully. It had faded in the sun but now goodxas new.

I am only reviewing this as I have now had three reminders requesting a review. Although this product is made for furnishings I used it on a linen jacket as I accidentally splashed a bit of bleach on it. Ordinary clothes dyes don’t take to linen so I bought this as the product information stated it worked on all fabrics. I was hoping it would blend in as the colour on the packaging was perfect. The jacket is chocolate brown. Unfortunately it is a poor colour match and although the product looks chocolate brown, once it was put on the fabric it was much lighter - more a mid brown. I’ve used several layers which has just made it worse. This product would be great for a cushion cover or for something that you are painting in its entirety but it doesn’t work as a spot colour as it’s too light.

We thought the color would match and cover up some of the patches on our headboard, but we were a little off. The ease and look turned out good.

Nice one
