Time to unleash the fab factor with our Black Fabric Paint

Got something that's feeling a little unloved? All-in-one Fabricoat fabric paint helps you revive pretty much anything, from sofas and cushions to curtains and car interiors. Acting like a fabric dye, it's extremely easy to use, highly durable and a cost effective way to bring fabric back to life.

Fabricoat comes in a range of 16 on-trend and classic colours. The colours are strong and vibrant and won't fade or rub off after they've dried. Add your own unique personality and style to your surroundings.

Once dry, the fabric will remain soft and flexible - it won't make the material go hard or stiff - and it will provide a long-lasting finish that you'll enjoy for years.

Just so you know...

If you're using the paint to change the colour of fabric, always ensure the fabric is a lighter colour than the paint you decide to use. Can't find the colour you desire? Then try mixing the colours to your preferred shade or use our White Mixing Fabricoat paint to lighten other colours. As it dries, do brush the surface a few times to prevent any fibres sticking together.

If your fabric has a pile, such as velvet, faux-suede, chenille, draylon or microfibre, we recommend ordering double the quantities of fabric paint. This is because there's lots more surface area to cover on these types of fabric.

Always test the fabric for water absorbency first. If it's absorbent, Fabricoat will work.

Full instructions are provided on in our How To section and on the product label.

Frequently Asked Questions

A. Yes, Fabricoat will work on any fabric provided it's absorbent. To test absorbency, drop some water onto the fabric and see if it soaks in. If it does, it is absorbent, and Fabricoat will work. We’d advise that for fabrics with a pile, you order double the amount of fabric paint as there's more surface area to cover.

A. A 250ml bottle will cover a lampshade or cushion, 500ml will paint a dining chair or a footstool, 1 litre will be enough for an armchair, headboard, or car seat, and 2.5 litres will be enough to transform a three-seater sofa.

However, if your fabric has a pile (like velvet, faux-suede, chenille, draylon, or microfibre), you will need to use more product as there is much more surface area to cover. We suggest ordering double the above quantities of fabric paint for these fabric types.

Our 125ml bottles are for small craft projects such as painting or printing on clothing, bags, napkins, lampshades and more. Alternatively they can be used as tester bottles to perform a small test on an inconspicuous area before tackling larger upholstery projects, if you want to see how the colour will turn out.

A. No, as long as you brush the fabric with a Soft Bristle Brush during and after painting it should not feel any different. Fabricoat is designed to dry with a soft, flexible finish without changing how the fabric feels.

A. If you want to change the colour of an item, we recommend you always use a darker paint than the original colour.  If you do wish to transform your item to a lighter colour, the original darker colour is likely to show through. You can use our White Fabricoat as a base paint, but we suggest you always test a corner of the fabric first to guarantee this will work.

A. Sofas, chairs, lampshades, blinds, headboards and car interiors, but the possibilities are endless. Our small 125ml craft sized bottles are perfect for hand painting or printing on t-shirts and bags, or decorating fabric advent calendars and cushions. Check out our Inspire page or socials to see what our community have been painting.

A. Yes, it is. Fabricoat takes two hours to become touch-dry and can be used after that, but we’d advise waiting a full seven days to allow the colour to fully cure. Once it’s fully cured, the material can be washed or cleaned as normal. Once dry, it will not rub off onto your clothes or other items.

Covered well in two coats although the final finish is crispy to the touch as it’s a coating. It doesn’t feel very nice to the touch but looks great.

Customer photo review of Fabric Paint -- Black

I had a chair whose pattern didn’t match my vision for my living room so I decided to take a chance and paint it. I’ve never done this before so I was nervous but I’m happy I did! It took way more bottles than I expected but I think it’s because of patterned part that was a similar texture of a rug so I had a hard time getting the paint into the crevices. It took a few coats. In the end I’m very proud of the outcome !!

I bought a new chair with a print I didn’t love, so I decided to take a chance and paint it black. It took quite a few bottles to get full coverage, but it was absolutely worth it — I’m so happy with how it turned out! Now I’m just looking for my next excuse to start another painting project.

Customer photo review of Fabric Paint -- Black

I must admit I am shocked at the result and how easy it was to apply. I did a lot of research on customer reviews on social media before purchasing as I wasn’t sure if this was a bit of a trick - but nope it’s not. It’s not 100% perfect but I do think I have one of the stranger fabric types, pretty sure it’s “chanille” so it does look streaky even after 2 coats - looks a bit washed denim so it’s ok. We’re still in the 7 day “curing” phase so I can’t tell you if it transfers etc… as I’ve covered it away from the dogs. The only reason I’ve rated as I have is simply due to the price. I’m likely to need an extra 2 coats so it’s going to be pretty expensive as I’ll need another 2.5L bottle.

Blended with 3 parts dark green to one part black to give a darker green that perfectly matches my outfit. It's enabled me to transform a white hat! Be warned, though, if in contact with plastic (which I used to protect the table, and the embellishments on the hat which I wanted to keep white) it takes much longer to dry, so make sure whatever you've painted has space to breathe.

Couldn’t afford to change my velux window blinds so did abit of research and found this. I read all reviews and thought why not! It has transformed my blinds and so glad I painted them. I ordered the 500ml bottle and did 2 blinds each with 2 coats and there’s still just under half the bottle left.

Customer photo review of Fabric Paint -- Black

Just great! Unfortunately, my photography skills does not make justice for the excellent quality. I used it to refresh my Supra's interior and frankly I saved a lot of money. At the beginning l was sceptical that it might not cover well or even worse than it might ruin the whole carpet but it did great. Money spent well. Pro tip, preparation is key when it comes to having great results. Please follow these steps if you want to restore your beloved car: 1. Clean your carpet well. I mean to not just vacuum it but to remove it outside the car and gently pressure wash it. You have no idea how much grime came out of mine despite looking clean. 2. Let it to get bone dry and if needed have it re washed again. Dirt and paint is a big No No. 3. Once it is dry, get one of those spray bottles and light soak the top layer with water. This step will help to spread easily the paint. Also, you will eventually use lesser product. 4. With a paint brush spread a light coat of paint to every part of the carpet and let it to dry. 5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 if needed. Thin layers of paint is better than all at one go. I used about one liter for the whole process. 6. Enjoy your results.
